Annual Lancaster Covered Bridge Ride Aug. 14-15
February 20th, 2010Lou has again set up plans for our annual Lancaster Covered Bridge Ride.
Here is the information Lou has provided:
With two individuals in the room the total cost is only $150 dollars which includes ALL meals!!
RESERVATION NUMBER: 800-626-2021 WEEKEND: Saturday & Sunday, August 14 & 15 2010
So, you owe it to yourself to enjoy the Amish Country at a reasonable price plus enjoying two beautiful days of cycling and sightseeing.
Every year the group has expanded from initially 10 riders to as many as 35 riders. With this in mind, PLEASE make your reservations early as possible as I had to close out the group last year. Last year I was able to ADD rooms as I did receive an early count.

Lou shows off a birthday gift from his covered bridge buddies.
NOTE: We will probably leave much earlier this year to avoid the traffic and to have a longer but EASY ride through the country side on Saturday. I made arrangements for us to change into our cycling gear upon arrival on Saturday.
For the new people who have never did this ride before it is a FUN weekend at your OWN pace and mileage. I will provide the on-line registration link when available as well as additional information.
Thank you,
Lou Bruno
Cyclocross Photos from Mel
December 12th, 2009Back when the weather was warmer… a major Cyclocross event was held out east. Melvin Roldan was there to take in the action (and also snap a few pics)
If you're doing cyclocross, you'll be doing some lifting and running
Close to the action
High-speed downhills
Steep uphills!
Rabid fans
and more crazy fans
And the victory celebration
Lou’s 60th - step up to a new age group
December 5th, 2009Sal has sent in some pics from Lou’s 60th birthday bash. As Sal said, “A great gathering by a great bunch for a great guy.” Some of these people may or may not have been there. Alec, Arne, Bob, Bruce, Don, George, Glenn, Karen, Howie, LOU, Mike, Paul, Rich, Terry, Stan, Tracy.
(Since no captions were provided, I will do my best to fill in the details.)
Lou is excited about moving to the 60 and over age group. Looks like he is planning on entering 10 races this next year!
If you close your eyes you can visualize yourself crossing the finishline. Get ready to raise your arms high!
Karen explains how narrow handlebars will help Lou be more aerodynamic and electronic shifting will help him reach his full potential.

The big surprise - a custom built carbon disk rear wheel with Lou's bike team sponsorship logo screened on. That's going to look GREAT going down the road.
As usual Alec finds a way to get his photo in the HBC blog.
Too bad we could not all be there. Have a great year Lou!
Happy B-day,
Arch
Back in Black
December 5th, 2009Do black tires really wear longer?
A friend of HBC memeber Jesus Hernandez sends the following information:
Interesting information about colored tires http://yarchive.net/bike/tire_color.html. Apparently colored tires lack a polymer called Carbon Black which improves wear resistance and increases wet traction.
To substantiate this claim, Continental bicycle tires on their website state that their colored tires are made from different material than their black tires. Their black tires also have the Black Chili Compound which they claim wears better and decreases rolling resistance. I have a pair of blue conti GP 4000 tires on my blue Trek and they wore considerably faster than the black GP 4000 tires on my Madone. Hence, only black tires for me from here on.
Regards,
Ernest
So perhaps this is the year to add “Black Tires” to your holiday wish list?

Remember When? Another HBC group climbs Bear Mtn.
November 15th, 2009Over a month ago (when it wasn’t dark all the time and winter didn’t seem so close) a group from HBC visited the Bear. Here are some photos sent in by Sal.
Halfway done - still looking fresh
Gang on top! HBC beats the Bear once again.
Ken gets a a closeup
Sal gets a solo photo
A ride isn't complete unless you stop for lunch.
Everyone gets a rest when the train goes by
Scott, Tracy and Sal - looks like a fun time was had by all
Rich and Tracy look ready to ride some more.
Hey, Sal... what's this photo, doesn't look like the Bear? Did Alec pay you to include this so he could get his photo in the blog? (actually from MD trip)
Hope you enjoyed the photos of Sal’s visit to the Bear. Good memories of warmer times — keep riding to be ready for more Bear Mtn. 2010!
