April 3 – HBC rides start! View ride calendar online

Sunday, March 14th, 2010
The April 3rd start of the HBC riding season is almost upon us. With the lousy weather we’ve all been having (that includes Florida), I’m sure everyone is raring to go.
As promised at a 2009 club meeting, in 2010 we’ve made it easier and less cumbersome for all to view club rides. In the place of confusing monthly and weekly e-mails that contain hard to download attachments, we’re making use of a redesigned and easy to follow calendar on our website (http://www.hbcli.org/rideslist/current_ride_listlist.php). This calendar will be the single source for all ride information. Access to the calendar does not require a login code, and it will be updated as necessary.

April listings are already flowing in to the calendar from the various group ride captains, so take an early look and get ready for some great rides in 2010.

Minutes from the March 2, 2010 Meeting of the Huntington Bicycle Club

Called to Order:  7:55 PM

1) New Members: Charles, Mike, Carlos and Bruce
2) Treasurer: Dues are to be remitted now, for continuing members.
$ 25.00 for an individual/$ 30.00 for families.
3) Gold Coast: Sunday, July 11, 2010
4) Ride report: Official Club rides begin in April. For unofficial rides, check the appropriate ride level forum on the HBC Web page.
John spoke about three fundraisers he is involved with. The first is the “Ride to Heal”, taking place on May 23. The second is on July 16-19, and the third is Sept. 19.
Check the HBC blog for all his information.
5) Comments were made that the Newsletter/blog should announce the next meeting-time and place. Some people came in February, even though there was no meeting. Members are encouraged to use the ride forums on the web page more, to keep the lines of communication open.
6)  Mike and Tracy volunteered to develop a design for a new club jersey.
7)  Members are encouraged to go to the State Bike Trail web site, and petition the state to commence paving the Port Jeff to Wading River trail. The $$ has been allocated for this 17 mile off road trail, but LIPA is holding up the process.

Meeting adjourned: 8:45 PM

Respectfully Submitted,
Karen Gellert, Secretary

A ride to benefit Sunrise Day Camp

Sunday, March 14th, 2010
A ride to benefit Sunrise Day Camp is an upcoming fundraising event that I would like to invite the members of HBC to participate in.  Sunrise Day Camp is the only summer day camp in the country dedicated to serving children with cancer and their siblings. The camp is designed so that these children can attend free of charge enabling them to experience a regular camp setting when their treatments allow.
In order to provide these opportunities for the children Sunrise Day Camp is organizing a bicycling event for:
~~~ Sunday, April 18.
~~~Registration for the ride will be $25
~~~The event will have rides of three distances; 13, 26, and 44 miles
(all of this can be found on the website www.ConnorsArmy.org).  We would love to get the word out to all the HBC riders to see if any would like to join us using their bicycles for a worthy cause.
Help the sun rise for a few deserving children.
Sincerely,
Gene Connor
