The Huntington Bicycle Club, NY

Date: 8/31/2022
Subject: Folks on Spokes, August, 2022
From: Huntington Bicycle Club

            A Message From the President
                  August greetings to all!
Hoping that all of you have been taking advantage of summer cycling opportunities.
As the season comes to a close, there are still many local events members can take advantage of:
Massapequa Park's Tour of the Hamptons, on Sunday, Sept. 18. There are already "teams" from HBC going. When you sign up, indicate that you're an HBC member. There is a release that needs to be notarized, so keep that in mind when registering.
The Stony Brookside Bed and Bike Inn is holding their annual event to sponsor CycleNY on October 9. This is always a great ride, using the bike trails through Setauket as well as the scenic routes around Stony Brook. The food at the end is worth the ride!
New options on membership renewals: If you wish to renew at an earlier time than your annual deadline, there is that option now on the website. Just go to your profile and follow the renewal cues.
HBC notes the passing of Nicky Giordano. He was a dedicated cyclist and a true mensch (great guy). His wife, Eileen sent an email thanking us for the post about his passing, see below. Thank you Andy and Malachy for that.
The online vote was taken, and the results are that the amendment to the By-laws was approved:  adding a non-voting member to the Board, if necessary. This enables the new and current Treasurers to work together insuring a smooth transition. Gregg, we will so miss you!
Safety issues: Beware of those water caps (usually highlighted in blue). If they are loose, they pose a great hazard for cyclists.
The September 13 meeting will feature a slide show and presentation of the recent bike trip from Northport to Burlington, VT by John Greene and John Siedlecki. The Strava of them going across LI Sound is quite impressive. At the 9/13 meeting, we will discuss plans for a swap meet in order to buy/sell cycling equipment. Another item will be setting up a Bicycle Rodeo sponsored by AAA, where we show young riders how to ride safely and also check their bikes. When that is set up, volunteers will be needed.
Speaking of the meeting, please sign up for it, so we know how much pizza to order.
      See you on the road!
  Karen

What happens in Quogue, stays in Quogue!

The following is a letter from his Nick Giordano's wife, Eileen
Dear Members,
I cannot tell you how wonderful your eulogy of my Nick was. He would be so very, very happy to see how the Huntington club sent him off on his ride in heaven.
Next year some of Nick‘s ashes will be spread at the Statue of Liberty, the first thing he saw when he came to this country, Some will be spread in Italy where he was born.
We will be having a celebration of his life next year. I will definitely let the club know when, and anyone who would like to come is more than welcome.
I want to thank you so much for what a beautiful eulogy you gave him!
Fondly, Eileen Giordano

Gregg's last club ride!
It is because of wonderful folks like you, that we are able to serve our families.

We are so grateful for the support of the club.
